RDCS – Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer

The only means of obtaining the RDCS credential is by examination. Required examination prerequisites must be fully met before an applicant can earn an ARDMS credential. Applicants are required to pass two comprehensive examinations to earn the RDCS credential listed below.

Important Announcement About FE and PE Windowed Administration Testing:
Beginning Spring 2014, the Fetal Echocardiography (FE) and Pediatric Echocardiography (PE) specialty examinations for the RDCS (and FE for RDMS) credential be administered during select times of the year at the PearsonVUE testing centers. This allows ARDMS to provide more precise scores, update test questions more quickly and enables a level of currency, quality, and innovation that would not otherwise be possible in year-round testing. Scores for each windowed examination period will be available approximately sixty (60) days after the testing period ends.

Specialty examinations within the RDCS credential:

Please note: Applicants may pursue the FE specialty under either the RDMS or RDCS credential. Once the designated credential is earned, it cannot be switched.

*The UPI, CPI and VPI examinations have been replaced by the SPI examination and are no longer offered by ARDMS.
