When ARDMS begins the development of an examination, a survey of the sonography community is performed to assess its need and support for a particular examination. In addition, Needs Analysis Surveys are essential for ARDMS to maintain its accreditation with the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). NCCA establishes accreditation standards and recognizes certifying agencies through a peer review process. ARDMS is the only certifying body for sonography accredited by NCCA.

These surveys are made available on-line to registrants. Registrants chosen to complete the Needs Analyses Survey are randomly selected from the entire ARDMS database based on credentials.
