About the Certification:
The Registered in Musculoskeletal® (RMSK®) sonography certification raises the standard of musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging worldwide and promotes best practices for enhanced patient safety. By earning the musculoskeletal ultrasound certification, physicians and advanced care providers gain a critical edge in promoting public safety in musculoskeletal ultrasound. These practitioners come from a variety of musculoskeletal ultrasound training background, but share a common goal of improving the practice of musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging.

RMSK Certification, Examination & Prerequisites

To earn the RMSK certification, you must meet the educational and professional prerequisites and pass the Musculoskeletal (MSK) sonography examination​. The MSK examination requires applicants to be licensed, practicing physicians or advanced care professionals who have clinical musculoskeletal ultrasound experience (there is no requirement for specific musculoskeletal sonography training). Please consult the full list of prerequisites​ to see if you qualify to apply for the musculoskeletal ultrasound certification.

The MSK examination takes four hours to complete and contains 200 questions. You’ll be assessed on your knowledge and abilities in the areas of muscles, joints, ligaments, tendons and soft tissues of the body. In order to earn your MSK sonography certification, you need to demonstrate that you have basic competency of the subject. Scores for each examination period are available approximately 60 days after the testing period ends.

Apply for the MSK Examination

The MSK examination is a windowed examination that is administered twice during select times of the year at Pearson VUE test centers. Applications for the exam must be submitted through MY APCA and must include the necessary supporting documentation.

Once we review and confirm your application and it is approved, we’ll send you an Examination Confirmation Letter (ELC). From there you’ll be able to schedule your examination appointment.
