Physicians'​ Vascular Interpretation (PVI) China ​Examination

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Important Update: The RPVI-Chin certification and the corresponding Physicians' Vascular Interpretation in China (PVI-China) examination are now administered and awarded by ARDMS's new physician-centric companion Council, the Alliance for Physician Certification & Advancement (APCA).

The RPVI-China credential documents the highest attainable standard in vascular ultrasound interpretation in China. ​

 ‭(Hidden)‬ Qualifications Required

To be eligible to take the exam, individuals must have the following qualifications:

  1.   Practicing physician in China.
  2.   Earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine.
  3.   Authorized diagnosis of a minimum of 500 vascular ultrasound studies in China within the 
      preceding 36 months of application. For the purposes of satisfying this requirement, these
      studies must be completed on actual patients in a clinical diagnostic setting which include
      hospitals, clinics and private practices. ARDMS does not accept volunteer, simulation,
      instructorship, unpaid, barter, or veterinarian experience.

 ‭(Hidden)‬ Examination Payment

The examination application opens on March 1 and the $150 examination fee is due during the application. The candidate cannot proceed to scheduling until payment is made. The deadline to apply is July 15, 2016. All scheduling must be complete by July 18.


Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover will be the only forms of payment accepted. Once payment is received, an email confirmation letter with scheduling instructions will be sent to your email address of record.

 ‭(Hidden)‬ Examination Format & Duration

The exam is administered in Simplified Chinese and consists of 150 multiple choice questions each with four response options. Candidates will indicate their choice for the correct answer by clicking a button next to one of the response options.


Candidates will have three (3) hours to complete the examination.

The PVI-China exam content outline is available in two languages: English Language Version and the Chinese Language Version.

The Chinese Ultrasound Doctors Association (CUDA) has study material recommendations which can be found on the CUDA website.

 ‭(Hidden)‬ Scheduling the Examination – Deadline of July 18

Candidates must schedule their examination by July 18. An Examination Confirmation Letter (ECL) email will be sent once the exam fee is paid. The ECL provides instructions how to schedule an examination date and time.

 ‭(Hidden)‬ Testing Center Identification Requirements

At the testing center examinees will be required to present a non-expired government issued photo identification. The name on the identification MUST phonetically match the Pinyin of the name listed on the Attestation Form and on the Examination Confirmation Letter email.

 ‭(Hidden)‬ When are Scores Released?

Scores are released 60 days after the end of the exam. Candidates will be sent an email instructing them to log into their MY ARDMS account to check the pass/fail decisions. Candidates who pass the exam will be mailed their RPVI-China certificates within 60 days after the scores are released.

 ‭(Hidden)‬ After Earning the RPVI-China Credential

Upon passing the examination you will be designated with the Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation in China (RPVI-China) credential - the highest attainable standard in vascular ultrasound interpretation. The credential is awarded and governed by the ARDMS. You will receive a printed RPVI-China certificate mailed from the Chinese Ultrasound Doctors Association (CUDA) office.


To maintain your ARDMS certification you will be required to meet all maintenance of certification requirements, such as an annual renewal fee, Continuing Medical Education (CMEs) credits and a reassessment within a ten year period.
