2012 Renewal: Procedure for Post Reinstatement
Registrants who did not pay their 2012 annual renewal fee and reinstatement fee of $150 by the deadline of February 29, 2012, have their ARDMS credential(s) revoked. A final revocation letter will be sent to Registrants in late March 2012 advising them of the loss of credential(s) and the step to take to have the credential(s) reinstated.
Important Notice to New Registrants – If you earned your first credential between December 1 – 31, 2011, please click here for details regarding your modified reinstatement dates.
ARDMS made several attempts to notify Registrant’s of their 2012 annual renewal fee including:
- Five (5) e-mail reminders (sent on 9/9/11, 10/13/11, 11/2/11, 12/1/11 and 12/27/11)
- An official invoice sent to the Registrant’s mailing address (mailed on 10/14/11)
- A postcard reminder (mailed on 11/ 23/11)
- A call was made on 12/20 to Registrants (within the US and Canada, only)
- Articles in Registry Reports and Newswire
- Website postings, articles and reminders
- Letter of Reinstatement assessing $150 reinstatement fee to be paid by February 29, 2012 (mailed on 1/20/12).
- E-mail notices were sent on 1/12/12 and 2/15/12 regarding assessment of the $150 reinstatement fee the reinstatement deadline of February 29, 2012.
- Final Revocation Letter (official notice will mail in late March 2012)
To reinstate your credential(s) and avoid retesting, you must follow the procedures outlined below and submit all documentation to be received by ARDMS on or by August 1, 2012.
1. You must pay the $60 USD annual renewal fee, ($90 USD for RPVI) AND You must pay the $300 USD post reinstatement fee. Include your ARDMS number on your check/money order and make it payable to the ARDMS. If you would prefer to pay via credit card, please fill out and return the Credit Card Authorization form on or by August 1, 2012.
2. If your ARDMS three-year CME period ended on December 31, 2011, you must submit copies of a total of 40 ARDMS-accepted CMEs earned anytime between January 1, 2009, and July 31, 2012*. Fees and all required CMEs must be received via mail, together.
CME documentation (certificates) must include the following information (do not send original certificates):
- Your full name - handwritten entries are acceptable
- Your ARDMS number - handwritten entries are acceptable
- Date of course or activity (dated between January 1, 2009 and July 31, 2012*) - must be pre-printed, handwritten entries will be denied
- Name of the ARDMS-approved sponsoring organization (e.g. General Hospital and Medical Center). ARDMS approved provider organization (e.g. AMA cat.1, ASRT cat. A and A+, ASUM, CMECmte – CMA, CSDMS, CSVS, SDMS, SVU. This list is subject to change. Please visit ARDMS.org for a complete list.) - must be pre-printed, handwritten entries will be denied
- Title of course or activity - must be pre-printed, handwritten entries will be denied
- Number of credit hours awarded - handwritten entries are acceptable
*If you earned your first credential in 2008, then you must mail in copies of a total of 40 ARDMS-accepted CMEs earned anytime between the date you earned your first credential in 2008 and July 31, 2012.
3. All documents and payments must be submitted and received in the ARDMS office on or by August 1, 2012. Please include your name and your ARDMS number on all documentation and payments, and mail to: ARDMS, ATTN: Status Reinstatement, 51 Monroe Street, Plaza East One, Rockville, MD 20850-2400.
By paying the annual renewal fee, a Registrant attests that he/she: (a) is in compliance with all ARDMS rules and discipline policies, (b) has accrued – or will have accrued, by the end of the appropriate three-year CME period – the required ARDMS-accepted CME credit hours; (c) has not been arrested, charged with, convicted of, found guilty for and/or pleaded nolo contendere to any crime (felony and/or misdemeanor) other than a speeding or parking violation; and (d) will continue to comply on an ongoing basis with all ARDMS rules and policies, which may be amended from time to time without prior notice.
If you fail to comply with the above requirements by August 1, 2012, your credential(s) will remain revoked. This means that:
You will no longer be a registered sonography professional with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) of Rockville, Maryland;
- You cannot represent yourself as an ARDMS Registrant with regards to ARDMS certification, including any misstatement of fact about being ARDMS certified in any specialty, to current or future employers or others;
- You will no longer be included in any listing of ARDMS Registrants, and your name will be listed as “no longer certified” on the ARDMS web site;
- You can no longer display your ARDMS certification certificate(s); and
- You will not receive any of the standard ARDMS privileges and benefits.
Non-compliance with the ARDMS revocation policies and procedures will result in the need to retake all necessary ARDMS examinations and pay all applicable fees to regain Active status.

Registrant renewal fees, application fees, dues, contributions or gifts to ARDMS are not deductible as a charitable contribution for federal income tax purposes. These payments may be deductible as ordinary and necessary business expenses under Section 162 of the Internal Revenue Code. ARDMS has been organized under Section 501(c) (6) of the IRC.
