We have heard from the ARDMS Registrant community regarding health and safety concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic. ARDMS is monitoring the COVID-19 situation daily, reading all posts and communications from the community, and is working in collaboration with Registrants and the sonography community to identify resources. This is an evolving issue and so too will be the ARDMS response. Here is the latest guidance from ARDMS:
Latest Health/Safety Insights – Use the ARDMS COVID-19 Facebook Community
Your sonographer peers are sharing insightful and timely information about the latest practice updates via the ARDMS COVID-19 Facebook Community (link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/204903250923444/). Please use this resource to connect with others and share guidance and resources.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
Decisions regarding Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) rest with Federal and State governments, local public health authorities and within the practice/institutional level. ARDMS is united with the sonographer community in their call for access to PPEs. To help you advocate for immediate change at your practice setting, please download and share this letter with your employer, healthcare administrators and others. Please access the ARDMS letter here.
Discontinuation of Non-Essential Ultrasounds:
Many states and localities are issuing directives on non-essential surgeries and medical procedures. Some practices and institutions are also creating new guidelines for elective and non-critical care. Please check with your local or state government, medical authority and/or practice/institution regarding non-essential ultrasound studies. ARDMS stands with the Registrant and sonography community in calling for limiting elective sonography studies. To help you advocate for immediate change at your practice setting, please download and share this letter with your employer, healthcare administrators and others. Please access the ARDMS letter here.
Similar letters from AIUM, SDMS, and other healthcare organizations have been sent to government officials, regulatory bodies and the medical community. Please have these letters accompany the ARDMS letter as further evidence of the need for PPEs and limiting exams.
How ARDMS is Supporting You During COVID-19:
The ARDMS is supporting our Registrant community by:
- Extending examination, application, CME audit and other credentialing-related deadlines.
- Updating our website to inform you of recent changes due to COVID-19.
- Providing and monitoring a Facebook group, where sonographers can communicate about their experiences, share guidance and resources.
- Meeting weekly with other sonography organizations to communicate and address the needs of the sonographer community within our power.
We understand that these are uncertain times in healthcare. Thank you for sharing your concerns with ARDMS and working with us to find resources and information to aid the Registrant Community. You have our deepest respect and gratitude.
Please take good care.
