If you are a physician interested in applying for the RDMS credential with an FE specialty, please visit the website for ARDMS's new physician-centric companion Council, the Alliance for Physician Certification & Advancement (APCA).
The Fetal Echocardiography (FE) examination tests basic fetal echocardiography knowledge and skills essential to Sonography Professionals.
Applicants may pursue the FE specialty under either the Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) credential. Once the FE examination is taken under the selected credential, it cannot be switched. To earn an RDMS or RDCS credential with an FE specialty, you must pass the Sonography Principles and Instrumentation (SPI) examination and the FE examination within five years. After passing the SPI examination, you can earn additional credentials without having to retake the SPI examination, provided you maintain active status.
You must wait until the next administration to retake the FE examination if you do not pass the examination.
