WRMSD 2021 VIRTUAL SOLUTION HACK-a-THON CHALLENGE

No purchase or payment is necessary to register, participate or win.  

The WRMSD 2021 Solution Hack-a-Thon Challenge (“Hack-a-Thon”) is run by the Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders Grand Challenge Alliance, an WRMSD of representatives from the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Inteleos, American Society of Echocardiography, Intersocietal Accreditation Commission, Joint Review Committee on Education in Cardiovascular Technology, Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Society for Vascular Ultrasound, and Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (“WRMSD”), Participation in the Hack-a-Thon constitutes entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules, along with the Privacy Policy of the WRMSD.

Eligibility.  No purchase or payment is necessary to register, participate or win.  Anyone involved in or studying sonography, physical therapy/chiropractic medicine, engineering, medical, instructional design, health/wellness, architecture, business, sports/fitness, hospital administration is encouraged to participate.  The Hack-a-Thon is open to anyone age 18 or older as of the date of entry who resides in the United States and Canada, except where prohibited by law.  Hack-a-Thon is void in Puerto Rico and U.S. territories and possessions. Employees of WRMSD, and its associated organizations, its affiliates, subsidiaries, and members of their immediate families (parents, siblings, children, and spouses of each) and/or persons living in the same household as such persons, whether related or not, are not eligible.

How to Participate. Participants need to register for the Hack-a-Thon at www.ardms.org/grandchallengehackathon/, clicking the “Register to participate” link, and  completing the online form.  Personal information submitted by Participant will be treated according to the Privacy Policy of WRMSD.  WRMSD reserves the right to deny any registration based on submission of incomplete information or terminate participation on a team for non-compliance with these Official Rules.  Furthermore, WRMSD is not responsible for late, lost, delayed, damaged, misdirected, incomplete, illegible, or unintelligible entries.

Selection of Teams.  WRMSD will select a group of twenty-five (25) participants in order of registration, to comprise of a maximum of five (5) representatives from each of the following occupations and/or field of studies; sonography, physical therapy/chiropractic medicine, engineering, medical, instructional design, health/wellness, architecture, business, sports/fitness, hospital administration.  Each team will also be assigned a HAT Team Advisor and an industry-related Mentor volunteer to assist with Hack-a-Thon logistics and offer insight and guidance about sonography.  Each team will be required to select a leader amongst themselves to help guide the team through the production of their presentation and can be the only person that can communicate with WRMSD.  Additionally, each member of a participating team will be required to complete an affidavit or declaration of eligibility/liability and, where permitted by law, a publicity release, which must be signed and returned so that it is received by WRMSD no later than December 31, 2020 at 11:59 pm (EST). Failure to comply will result in forfeiture of all rights to prize(s).

Each team member will be required to participate online for team calls and presentation development and commit to at least 10 hours total time to the project.  Each team will also be required to participate in a final presentation call which will be recorded by.  Should participant’s team be selected as the winner of the Hack-a-Thon, additional time may be involved in attending the WRMSD Design Summit (to be held live or virtual, tentatively Spring 2021).  Failure to participate in team calls and/or contribute to the final presentation development, will result in forfeiture of all rights to prize(s), as decided by the discretion of the WRMSD

Registrations received who are not selected to participate on a team will be notified by the email address entrant used to register entry.

Judging and Winner Selection. All presentations must be submitted for consideration to WRMSD by 5:00pm EST on February 15, 2021 (“Cutoff Date”).  Entries will be deemed “submitted” once recorded and uploaded by the team’s WRMSD Advisor.

Judging of presentations will take place between February 16, 2021 and February, 28, 2021.  Judges will be chosen by WRMSD and will be comprised of a mixture of representatives from WRMSD’s industry-related partners.  WRMSD, and Event Judges, Advisors, or Mentors are not eligible for prize(s).  All submitted presentations will be judged on creativity, sustainability, and practicability.

The winning team members will be notified by the email address entrant used to register entry. Members of the winning team may not substitute, assign or transfer any prize or redeem any non-monetary prize for money.

Prizes.  All 25 participants assigned to a team and fully completed all of the requirements will be awarded a $25 (USD) Visa gift card to be distributed on March 1, 2021, regardless of whether or not they are part of the winning team.  Each member of the winning team will receive a $550 USD cash prize, and will be invited to participate in the 2021 WRMSD Design Summit.

All participants are responsible for reporting and determining if they have a tax liability and should consult a tax professional. WRMSD will not make any tax withholding from the awarded prize and have made no representations as to whether the prize is or is not taxable income.  Should an individual participant’s winnings be greater than or equal to $600 USD, WRMSD will provide a 1099-MISC form to the participant.

General Terms and Conditions. By participating, entrants agree that  the Entities, that make up the WRMSD, (Entities) their shareholders, members, agents and representatives, affiliates, subsidiaries, related entities, advertising, promotion and fulfillment agencies, and legal advisors are not responsible or liable for, and shall be released and held harmless from: (i) telephone, electronic, hardware or software program, network, Internet, or computer malfunctions, failures, or difficulties of any kind; (ii) any condition caused by events beyond the control of Sponsor that may cause the Hack-a-Thon to be disrupted or corrupted; (iii) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Hack-a-Thon; (iv) any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind in connection with or resulting from participation in the Hack-a-Thon, acceptance, possession, or misuse of any prize, including without limitation, personal injury, death, and property damage, and claims based on publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy. Hack-a-Thon Entities reserve the right, in its sole discretion, to amend and interpret these Official Rules at any time, and to terminate, suspend or cancel Hack-a-Thon at any time for any reason, including, without limitation, if a computer virus, bug, or other technical problem or security breach corrupts the administration, security, or proper conduct of the Hack-a-Thon participants. Participation in this Hack-a-Thon constitutes permission (except where prohibited by law) to use the winners’ names, hometowns (including state or province) and/or likenesses for promotional purposes without further compensation in perpetuity. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of participant and Sponsor in connection with the Hack-a-Thon, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Maryland,, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions (whether of the State of Maryland,  or any other jurisdiction), that would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of Maryland,. Any claim arising out of the foregoing shall be instituted solely in a court situated in Montgomery County, Maryland, and entrant and Sponsor irrevocably agree to submit to the personal and exclusive jurisdiction of such court. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Presentation Submissions. All presentations and related materials submitted by you and your team members becomes property of WRMSD GC Alliance and you hereby grant us a non-exclusive, fully paid and royalty-free license to use all submitted content in their submitted form, subject to re-sizing or re-formatting, for publication in official store emails, social media posts, or display advertising. By submitting, you represent and warrant that we may publish such material without liability or compensation to you. Your submission constitutes your acceptance of the terms and conditions in these submission guidelines.  Participants enrolled in a course of study or program at the time of the Hack-a-Thon are permitted, to use the materials they submit in any course related studies.

Limitation of Liability/Disclaimer of Warranties.  IN NO EVENT WILL THE HACK-A-THON ENTITIES BE RESPONSIBLE OR LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES OR LOSSES OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF YOUR ACCESS TO THE HACK-A-THON AND USE OF THE GRAND PRIZE. SOME JURISDICTIONS MAY NOT ALLOW THE LIMITATIONS OR EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OR EXCLUSION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES SO SOME OF THE ABOVE LIMITATIONS OR EXCLUSIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. CHECK YOUR LOCAL LAWS FOR ANY RESTRICTIONS OR LIMITATIONS REGARDING THESE LIMITATIONS OR EXCLUSIONS.

THE HACK-A-THON AND THE GRAND PRIZE ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.
